Just to stir the puddin' some more, I understand the nominations for the prize have to be in by February. How long had Obama been in office?

If you look at some of the folks that have received this, apparently not.

Even a young diehard Obama supporter I work with is confused about this.

These Europeans have been taking too many white obamas!

My very first reaction to this is "Such as?"

I used to take the Nobel committee fairly seriously. No longer.

Congratulations to President Obama. As an American who loves his country, I'm very happy that we're being seen in a positive light. It's unfortunate not everyone loves America enough to enjoy this moment.

I already posted this.

President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,”

Yeah, I saw that. I'm still looking for concrete examples.
I guess the Nobel committee wasn't going to give him the prize for economics, though.

Probably should have as he saved the world from a depression.

Well fair is fair. I'll be honest and say, while I'm quite happy for the President, I don't really understand this. He was in office 12 days when the nomination deadline passed according to one article I saw this morning. (Great headline, by the way "Obama wins Nobel Prize. Blows up Moon to celebrate.")

So what does it mean? Well, folks like him. And what they really like about him is that he isn't George Bush. And you have to hand it to him. He is quite good at not being George Bush. So, yeah. Guess you can get a prize for that. Seems like there should be a special catagory for it.

Take care,

Ed
