This was a hard read. What those people went through was so horrific I could hardly read more than a page or two at a time.

That would be a hard read for me too, because my neighbor went to work and did not return.

I had been reading some South American novels and now I think it right to get back to the USA.

Sorry to hear that. Sincere condolences, Don.

Appreciated--It was such a sad experience for many New Yorkers.
It abates somewhat with the passage of time.

The Gene: An Intimate History
Siddhartha Mukherjee
This book chronicles the history of theories as to how life passes on traits from generation to generation. I was drawn to the book because it includes stories of bureaucratic considerations as genetic science developed. It mixes science, politics, and law.

Friedrich Nietzsche
"Also sprach Zarathustra"
A couple of chapters, not the entire book.

That might not be the best choice a few days after the world has turned upside down. Lol

This is exactly what I thought last night, so I will enjoy Nietzsche in the next days only in small quantities.

Found a great old bookstore in Santa Monica. Picked up "Fate Worse Than Death" by Kurt Vonnegut. It was written in 1990. This is a telling quote. "The most extraordinary change I have seen in my lifetime is the decline of racism. Believe me, it could very easily be brought back to full strength by demagogues."
Wonder what Kurt would have to say about Trump.
