That term comes from The Bonfire of the Vanities a book by Tom Wolfe. Not the same guy from your home state of North Carolina that wrote Look Homeward, Angel.....

I have not read that one yet. It is about LSD and a bus. It was too scary for me to read.
Bonfire was great......but recent events have made that book look tame...amazingly.
You are indeed well read Rex.
I just finished Anna Karina.
I need to fix some great book holes in my life.

Yeah, me too. His book "The Right Stuff" was infinitely better in print than the movie.
Anyway, Ted Cruz or Rand Paul being the best that the Repubs can field will be Christmas in November for the Dems, come 2016. They both can't hold a candle to Romney and we all know what happened there.

Cruz has had his 15 minutes of fame and he will follow Bachmann and Palin into oblivion.

Yesterday he took himself out of the White House. He is a renegade who hates government but is using the democratic process to damage it.
If he gets the nomination the GOP is done. I predict he will run even if he does not get it. He is out for himself only. He does not care about governing or if he is destroying the GOP.
He will get the blame next week when the shutdown occurs.

US mom, Cuban Dad, born in Canada with dual US Canada citizenship. I have no clue how all that mess works out, but if he is eligible then he should go for it.

I'm thinking Rand Pauls future is limited too. He's given the Dems far too much ammunition with his defense of bigotry as a constitutional right. Sometimes, even when you may be right, it might behoove you to keep your mouth shut.

While I have followed either one closely, I think Rand Paul may be a little quicker on his feet than Cruz.
And as far as bigotry goes, after his recent speech to the blacks in which he denounced the overwhelming incarceration of blacks, he may be able to supercede the race card.
Time will tell, but I think the American electorate is ready for something other than business as usual.

I guess a Cruz for Prez lobby might finally get the SCOTUS to come up with a concrete definition of "natural born citizen". OTOH, WTF do I know?
