In an unprecedented move last week, the US Commerce Department announced that ZTE -- one of the largest manufacturers of smartphones and telecommunications devices in China and a primary supplier of mobile devices to US wireless carriers such as AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile -- is banned for seven years from purchasing components from US manufacturers.

Specifically, the order lists "Commodity, Software or Technology" that is now prohibited from sale and export out of the United States to the Chinese company.

That's a very broad category of items which not only includes semiconductors (such as the Qualcomm SoCs used in the phones) but also the licensed components of the Android OS from Google, among other things which make up the common software and hardware stack used in their products.
Wonder if this has something to do with Qualcomm and Google. Bbbbut, wan't he going to drain the swamp?

First ZTE, now Huawei: In the age of Trump paranoia, no Chinese smartphone is safe

The article failed to address the salient issue: The Chinese declared intent of supplanting and overcoming the US.

The Chinese after stealing from and bullying US companies have undertaken certain moves which have awaken a sleeping giant.

One Belt One Road Initiative.

Creation of international bank system to compete with that dominated by the US.

Creation of artificial islands to extend territorial claims and impede US influence in such areas.

Rapid growth of Chinese influence in South America and particularly Australia.

Chinese attempts at buying important/strategic companies in Europe.

And most egregious dedollarization -- the creation of the Petro-Yuan.

Looks like Trump likes waffles on Sunday mornings.
Quote:
President Donald Trump signaled Sunday he would help out a Chinese phone-maker that has been banned from accessing U.S. technology, a top priority of Chinese trade negotiators coming to Washington later this week for talks.

The Commerce Department imposed the harsh penalty just last month against ZTE, one of China's biggest tech companies, after it was found to have violated U.S. sanctions by selling equipment to Iran and North Korea.

But Trump is softening his stance toward the company as he seeks to strengthen his relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping, a key player in the upcoming summit with North Korea at which Trump hopes to score a major foreign policy victory, according to two people familiar with his position.

“President Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast,” the president wrote on Twitter. “Too many jobs in China lost. Commerce Department has been instructed to get it done!”

It was unclear exactly what Trump had in mind for ZTE, and he does not always follow through on policies floated via tweet. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said later on Sunday that Trump expected Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to "exercise his independent judgment...to resolve the regulatory action involving ZTE based on its facts."

Watching Oklahoma City: American Experience on PBS. A history of right wingnuts in America, a reminder of the horrific acts they're capable of.

Right wing idiots like Whell have perpetrated the worst atrocities in the name of "freedom", which they have no real understanding of. Yes, he can be lumped right in with the worst of them, as his mind is poisoned beyond redemption. They are everywhere, not just Ruby Ridge or Waco, and can easily spread their hate via the internet.

Trump is their hero, as he refuses to condemn the worst of them and even encourages their hate with his despicable rhetoric. Like them, Trump is incapable of real human emotion. Like them, Trump is a disgrace to this great country and an extreme danger to democracy. Thinking people, no matter their party affiliation, need to wake up from their apathy this November, and stop the horrors of this administration. They will only get worse the longer Trump is enabled by hateful idiots and apathy.

Trump Selects a Speaker for Jerusalem Embassy Celebration ...

... who thinks Muslims, Jews, and Mormons are all going to hell. Staying classy, as always.

WASHINGTON - One of the speakers at Monday’s ceremony marking the relocation of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem will be a Christian leader with a history of hateful comments against Muslims, Mormons, gay people and Jews.

Dallas-based Robert Jeffress, a Baptist pastor with a large following in Texas, told Fox News that he would be leading a prayer during the ceremony. Jeffress serves as an informal advisor to Trump on faith-based issues of U.S. President Donald Trump, and is also known for his support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.

As Mother Jones reported, during a 2010 lecture, Jeffress claimed, "God sends good people to Hell. Not only do religions like Mormonism, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism--not only do they lead people away from from God, they lead people to an eternity of separation from God in Hell."

Jeffress once said that “the dark dirty secret of Islam" is that "it is a religion that promotes pedophilia,” and that Islam is “a heresy from the pit of hell.”

On this subject, Mitt Romney tweeted:
Robert Jeffress says “you can’t be saved by being a Jew,“ and “Mormonism is a heresy from the pit of hell.” He’s said the same about Islam. Such a religious bigot should not be giving the prayer that opens the United States Embassy in Jerusalem.

Moving the Embassy from Tel Aviv was not the smartest thing to do.
I guess we shouldn't worry Jared is at the wheel on this one.

Trump's White House is the leakiest White House ever, by a very large measure.

Here are the 16 juiciest leaks that came out of the White House thus far in 2018.
