I found some Altec Lansing Santana IIs for $54


I guess the cold war liberal gods were rewarding me for steadfastness

thanks......I just hate the idea of refoaming but I guess it has to be done...I did not want to rub it in about the cassette deck I found yesterday...a JVC-KD-VR320....

Nice, looks like those were designed for classical.
Hmm, looks like a 5 in hole there, put one of my pair of 375's in there, refoam the bass, and then produce nice music for your entire neighborhood to enjoy.

I had a pair of the original Santana's back in the early 70's. Absolutely no top end whatsoever, except when coupled with a device I also bought which the salesman called an "energizer"...apparently some sort of dynamic processor I've never seen before or since. With that they sounded pretty good.

They were tough. For awhile, I had 'em stacked with my buddy's Pioneer R700's, and we sent the Pioneer's back to the shop a couple of times blowing smoke, while the Altec's just kept belting it out.

Overall, I think the R700's were better speakers soundwise.
