I've been armed long before they came out with cards that said I could be. I always just went off the Constitution. Here ya go Chas.

I have been around guns from a very young age. Hunting and target shooting along with varmint control on the farm. We were thought to respect guns and others. Having a Father who carried a .38 slug in the heart put there in a shooting accident when he was 13.
I believe anyone who eligible to own a gun should be able too! But not all guns should be legal. Assault rifles and extended mags to name a few.
A person should have to prove they are capable of using the firearm safely and pass a background along with a Psychological check. Then get a license to show that you are qualified.
I'm not one who believes that if everyone was armed we would have a polite society. The same analogy could be applied to Nuclear weapons and all the countries of the world. Would we really have a better world if everyone had the bomb? There are way to many crazy people, we do not want in that club!
The gun range I go to is public and shows it. People who don't care about safety or others show up all the time.

Good plan! Let's give every country in the middle east a A bomb. The world would be safer then, right?

I don't see anything here beyond common sense that I completely agree with.

Well, looks like I'm out. If I had ever owned a gun, the Commonwealth of Virginia would have ended up executing me years ago. In that regard, I'd say NOT owning a gun has probably saved my life......and others.

So, I still have hope?

So, disarming law abiding citizens is the solution?

The finest legal minds of our nation haven't quite figured that one out.
BTW, do you still possess a firearm after leaving you law enforcement career?
