From your base, no. To be asked to pony up to other members of your party from your own political war chest, definitely. Seems kinda like a political "Hail Mary" pass to me.

Or teamwork, perhaps? A good team pulls together when the game starts to go bad, do they not? Did the Republicans just throw their hands up and walk away in the midterms of '06? Of course not, that would be stupid.

I guess the question is "What are the relative priorities of the average politician?"

A. Self>Party>Country

B. Country>Party>Self

Unfortunately, my cynicism with regard to the fools on the hills leads me to pick option A.
And another option
D. Party>self>country

If you don't play ball, someone is going to get you.

It clearly doesn't look good in 2010 for the Dems. OTOH, the GOP winning control may result in Obama's reelection. There has been a lot of ink spilled about how this may resemble the 1994 off-year elections in which the GOP took back the House. After 2 years of seeing Gingrich and his follies, the country wanted Clinton back in the White House to balance out the crazy bomb throwers. The same could happen with Barry.

As one who is never afraid to make a stupid statement, I see the congressional dems paying more attention to politics than to governance. Of course, that is what their opponents have done for the past couple of years, and it seems to have been successful. The dems have been trying to govern, but they're afraid to say that. Governing sometimes means taking the long term view, and politics makes that very difficult. Telling the voters about long term results is like telling a fat man that he has to cut back on his eating, but he won't fit into his old suits for a year. Governing requires patience, and politics must respond to impatience.

That makes it difficult to say, we seriously improved health care coverage for Americans, and when 2014 gets here, you'll see how great it was. We passed a stimulus bill that prevented a recession, but the downturn had so much momentum that it's taking awhile to turn it around. The economic reforms will make it harder for the banks to screw us, but aren't some of the fat cats still getting obscene bonuses. The administration has ramped up enforcement efforts on illegal immigration and on employers exploiting illegal immigrants, but a big part of the electorate still see brown people working when their jobs are gone or insecure. Doing the right thing doesn't sell very well when the results are so slow to arrive.

Regards,

D-Ray
