How do we elect people like Alan Simpson?

Really what the heck is wrong with this country?

He has been making disparaging and ignorant statement about social security and social security recipients for years. Why would Wyoming keep sending him back? This is what happens when 500,000 people are given two US senators.
Just as ridiculous as who they elect.

Simpson isn't serving in the Senate any more but the good people of Wyoming did see fit to elect him many times. You know, though, this is just another example of the questionable appointments Obama has made and when you look at them, look at guys like Simpson, Geithner, Summers and even his two nominees to the SCOTUS, it really boggles the mind that anyone could think he's a socialist.

For whatever reason, I've always kind of liked Simpson. He seemed like a straight talking, no-nonsense guy with typical Western sensitivities, albeit a bit irascible. If I were living in a Red state, I'd still rather have him than one the new Tea Party/Palin acolytes.

Well, it's because SS is welfare, right? Just another government handout?
It's amazing the number of people I know who think just that. I even had a guy tell me once, "I'm tired of old farts living off the government. You know damn well we could squeeze a few more years out of them, they just don't want to work." Of course I had to ask; "Don't plan on getting old, Huh?"

Have to agree on this one. There's no future in growing old. Sadly, not everyone notices it until they are there themselves. I respect the elderly, they deserve it.

Simpson wants to shrink the deficit by slashing social security.

HELLO

that's his personal recommendation.

Yes Obie has gone to far in trying to be all encompassing, I hope he has learned his lesson.

I live in Wyoming and can say that the money behind candidates comes mainly from ranching and then big oil. Though all of the ranchers I've met are really down to earth they live for 150 year old rules. Like "water on my land is mine", "all wildlife that eat my cows hay should be dead" and "hell yes you can build that road to the oil rig through my land, for a nominal fee". No tree huggers, no national parks and no endangered species please. Simpson gives them that.
