Social Security has fully covered the payout and more. What the Congress does with the money is another story. If the Grand Old Panderers want to axe summat they can start with military bases abroad that are redundant. The can also go along with Gates and reduce the top brass be at least 50% as most of them could not find their arse with both hands and a flashlight.

My dear old dad says 'you want to fix social security? Take Congress off their cushy plan and put them on it.'

But, but, but, but, but, they're protecting our freedom. BTW, I've spent my share of time in the halls and offices of the Pentagon. Brigadier Generals (one-stars) are pretty much relegated to making coffee and doing PowerPoint presentations for the big boys there - really.

The ironic thing is, he's got a pretty cushy government retirement

My former daily driver, a 1989 Ford Probe could probably have found its own way to Fort Monmouth, it was back and forth to there often enough.

We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say.
Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

And speaking of the Goons, I was checking through the vinyl at a local thrift store yesterday and came across a boxed set of "The Best of Harry Secombe". Being a huge fan of The Goon Show, I was sorely tempted but Welsh tenors aren't exactly my cuppa.
But if anyone's interested, I'm sure it's still there.
