A Tennessee man charged by New York prosecutors with pretending to be a Manhattan lawyer and taking thousands from would-be clients was the co-founder of Students for Trump, a national group that mobilized college campuses in the run-up to the 2016 election and plans to do so again in 2020.

John Lambert, 23, was arrested last week and charged by Southern District of New York prosecutors with wire fraud for having invented a lawyer persona named “Eric Pope” that he used to solicit legal work online.

Roger Stone, indicted former Trump campaign adviser, claimed Tuesday to be divinely chosen “to expose certain epic truths at trial.”

In a social media post soliciting donations for his defense fund, Mr. Stone described a recent epiphany involving his pending federal court case.

“Just a few days ago, it was as though a light went on,” Mr. Stone said on Instagram. “I realized that we are His instruments on this earth and when we are willing He calls upon us to help Him accomplish certain things. I realized He has a purpose for me in my current challenge.

“I know that God is using me to expose certain epic truths at trial and I know that as I walk each day in His Light and listen to the guidance of that still small voice within, the whisper of God, I will be victorious in His name,” he said. “My strength, my confidence comes from Him. I have stepped from the darkness into the Light and I will prevail. The course of history is about to be changed through His guidance. I now know exactly what I must do.”

Florida House passes bill requiring former felons to pay before voting

Florida's GOP-controlled House passed a measure along party lines on Wednesday requiring former felons to pay fees and fines before having their voting rights restored, resulting in backlash from voting rights advocates who say it undermines a voter-approved constitutional amendment that allows an estimated 1.4 million former felons to vote again.

Details: The measure, now in the Senate, calls for court fines, fees and restitution to be paid before ex-felons, who've completed their sentences, can vote. According to the Miami Herald, the Senate’s version of the bill only requires restitution to be paid, "but not court fees and fines if those have been converted to a civil lien, which often happens." Nonetheless, any restrictions would prevent thousands from voting.

Sigh. Anything to suppress the vote.
