The GOP members are afraid of getting primaried let alone lose to a Democrat next year. So they are playing the polling game which shows that this monster still has support of 80% of the Republicans. As for his base, they are loving every minute of it and believe that once the wall is built, their problems will be over.

As Joseph Arpaio’s federal case headed toward trial this past spring, President Trump wanted to act to help the former Arizona county sheriff who had become a campaign-trail companion and a partner in their crusade against illegal immigration.

The president asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions whether it would be possible for the government to drop the criminal case against Arpaio, but was advised that would be inappropriate, according to three people with knowledge of the conversation.

Just notices that you're approaching 32000 posts, most of which are about nothing at all, including the one above. How does it feel to be a human incarnation of a Seinfeld episode?

Well, ain't you special? I'll pray for you and your pointy lil' head, son. Bless your heart. Maybe you and your girlfriend, JBS should start a net nanny service?

Great OP-ED on this in the Guardian:

Quote:
...the pardon is an expression of Trump’s governing style in distilled form.

Lacking the vision, tenacity, commitment and acumen to govern and shape policy, Trump contents himself with acts of spiteful erasure, gestures of teardown that require no more effort than a tweet or a signature.

Having lied that he had a “beautiful,” “terrific” and “unbelievable” health insurance plan to replace Obamacare; having lied that he had a detailed tax reform plan; having lied that he had a detailed plan to replace our crumbling infrastructure; having lied that Mexico would foot the bill for his “beautiful” wall, Trump works to keep his base in check with cheap yet profoundly damaging acts of undoing.

Good stuff here:

Quote:
Former Vice President Joe Biden in a new op-ed says President Trump’s “contempt for the U.S. Constitution and willingness to divide this nation knows no bounds.”

Biden in The Atlantic writes that Americans "living through a battle for the soul of this nation" following a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., in which one person was killed and at least 19 others were injured.

“If it wasn’t clear before, it’s clear now: We are living through a battle for the soul of this nation,” Biden said. “We have fought this battle before—but today we have a special challenge.”

“Today we have an American president who has publicly proclaimed a moral equivalency between neo-Nazis and Klansmen and those who would oppose their venom and hate,” the former vice president continued. “We have an American president who has emboldened white supremacists with messages of comfort and support.”

Biden praises the' “moral conscience” of those who acted in the wake of Trump's response to Charlottesville, pointing to the CEOs who quit Trump’s economic advisory councils and military leaders who spoke out against discrimination.

The former vice president also applauded protestors in Boston who later marched in solidarity with the Charlottesville victims.

“Then a week after Boston, we saw the truth of this president: He won’t stop,” Biden said. “His contempt for the U.S. Constitution and willingness to divide this nation knows no bounds.”

Biden then called on Americans to “do what our president has not” and “uphold American values”
to “show the world America is still a beacon of light.”
