Baseball might be worse, and why can a pitcher hit a batter with his equipment but the batter can't respond in kind?
I remember baseball being a much bigger deal in the 1950s, seems not so much anymore. Soccer seems to be the world's game now and an up and comer in the US, even Salt Lake City has a team and a stadium.

Soccer is more a universal game, pro basketball and American football tend to be freak shows for guys with atypical physique types.

Hey Steve, did you catch that movie '42'? Excellent movie about Jackie Robinson. Heck, me and my better half have seen it twice. It's a good one.

Yes, a good one. Just saw the PBS shows on the Freedom Riders, hard to believe how far we had not come from the ghosts of our past in those days.

"Has America accepted soccer"? is a bit confusing. What does that exactly mean? If America has accepted football (like billions and billions call this game) - does this mean it is from now on more than just a ridiculous ball game for Highschool girls?
American Football and baseball are an essential part of the idendity of the United States and this will never change and this is totally okay.
The West and the South West and South will probably never be really interested in football, but parts of the North East are. By the way - 2 million tweets in America during the US vs. Ghana match commenting this game is really something.

Futbol pretty big in the southwest Chris. Who's next? Oh yeah, we play Germany...we're doomed but then we weren't supposed to beat Ghana.

Hey Bob the German team destroyed the self-confidence of the Portuguese team - now the US boys just have to pick up this thread and they will achieve the last sixteen!
In 1974 Germany was World Cup winner. They had to play seven times (last one was the final vs. Oranje) and they won six times. But they lost the game vs. weak GDR (communist Eastern Germany) - perhaps 40 years later in this tournament the US team is going to beat the forthcoming World Cup winner? How knows?
