Unfortunately, you are I think right both times. Though the shit hitting the fan at that point might be our last best chance....

In any case, the situation highlights the wisdom of the original intent.

And when Florida Boys grow up, they become Florida Men.

POST-ELECTION UPDATE

Trump is acting all polite and 'let's all be friends' now because he isn't president yet, and he doesn't want to blow the deal. He knows there are still ways it could happen.

The Electoral College Petition is one such way: https://www.change.org/p/electoral-c...on-december-19

800,000 have signed in the first 16 hours!

The text from the petition page:
Quote:
On December 19, the Electors of the Electoral College will cast their ballots. If they all vote the way their states voted, Donald Trump will win. However, they can vote for Hillary Clinton if they choose. Even in states where that is not allowed, their vote would still be counted, they would simply pay a small fine - which we can be sure Clinton supporters will be glad to pay!

We are calling on the Electors to ignore their states' votes and cast their ballots for Secretary Clinton. Why?

Mr. Trump is unfit to serve. His scapegoating of so many Americans, and his impulsivity, bullying, lying, admitted history of sexual assault, and utter lack of experience make him a danger to the Republic.

Secretary Clinton WON THE POPULAR VOTE and should be President.

Hillary won the popular vote. The only reason Trump "won" is because of the Electoral College.

But the Electoral College can actually give the White House to either candidate. So why not use this most undemocratic of our institutions to ensure a democratic result?

SHE WON THE POPULAR VOTE.

There is no reason Trump should be President.

"It's the 'People's Will'"

No. She won the popular vote.

"Our system of government under our Constitution says he wins"

No. Our Constitution says the Electors choose.

"Too many states prohibit 'Faithless Electors'"

24 states bind electors. If electors vote against their party, they usually pay a fine. And people get mad. But they can vote however they want and there is no legal means to stop them in most states.

I don't like the electoral college but we are pretty much stuck with it. It would take a constitutional amendment to do away with it. That would have to be ratified by 3/4 of the states. The problem with that is the states with smaller populations benefit from this system by having an outsized influence on the election. And there are a lot more of these states than what would be needed to block this amendment from getting to 3/4.

As for electors going rouge, that would really open up a big can of worms. Sure some electors from states that went Republican could bolt and vote for the Democrat. But then others from blue states could bolt the other way. And before you know it you would have chaos where the popular vote wouldn't matter at all because too many electors are going rouge. But now that I think about it, that would be one way to get rid of the system as once it got to be that dysfunctional virtually everyone would be against it.

Now back to what would happen if the electors go rouge and nullify Trumps win. Right now you have many thousands of Hillarybots out in the streets showing their asses in increasingly violent anti-Trump demonstrations.

But you ain't seen nothing yet if Trumps election is overturned. The streets of the cities will run in rivers of blood.

I do find it amusing that the left was all indignant that Trump was hesitant to say that he would accept the results.

A lot more people than that would have a problem with it. Including a lot of Hillary voters I'd bet.

Liberals sowing the seeds of sedition ...

Faithless electors flipping the results to HRC would honor the popular vote.

We are just suggesting the Electoral College function as it was undeniably intended to function. If people think there's something wrong with that, they've had about 230 years to change the constitution.

Not sedition. The proposal is utterly lawful.
