Yeah, Ella.
She had recorded Song Books from some of the great ones: Cole Porter, Rogers & Hart, Duke Ellington & Billy Strayhorn, Irving Berlin, George & Ira Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Jerome Kern, Johnny Mercer.

Thanks to the vision and genius of producer Norman Granz, son of Jewish immigrants. A good portion of the Songbook was written by Jewish immigrants or descendents thereof.
I wonder how the idiot white nationalists rationalize that our great popular music is at its best when songs written by Jews are sung by blacks? We won’t even discuss the great movie classics...
I own most of Ella’s Songbook LPs. Photos much too large to post here, but I post them regularly on AK.

Indeed one Frank Rich of The New York Times wrote that in the Song Book series Ella had "performed a cultural transaction...".

My playlist for the round-trip to Wichita today:
Jeff Beck with the Jan Hammer Group
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever You Say I Am . . .
The Rembrandts - LP - Most of it - first listen and maybe the last. Didn't grab me.
Ben Folds Five - Whatever and Ever Again . . ., with bonus tracks. He does a salsa version of "She Don't Use Jelly" that is hilarious.
Stones - Let it Bleed. I must have used a lossless bit rate when I ripped it, because it sounded like Keith had his guitar in the front seat.
And about 20 minutes wasted on sports talk radio.

Joni Mitchell
The Hissing of Summer Lawns.
I keep going back to this great experimental masterpiece.
