The ultimate ruin of the insane project to pacify the Mid-East by invading Iraq and making a US vassal out of it.

Except that we really made an Iranian vassal out of it. As long as the Sunni controlled Iraq they had an army that was able to fight the ayatollah to a standoff. Then that brilliant joker GWB sent over there disbanded what was left of their army. The only thing the current lot was good at was sneak attacks on our troops.

I heard this morning that the Sunni minority ruled Iraq for 13 centuries. Somehow, we thought that a little "shock and awe" would change that.

Oh that is a non-issue...old American equipment. The real issue is that Iraq may be Balkanizing into pieces like Syria. Maybe the Arab Spring is going to turn the Middle East into a vast group of War Lord ran territories a'la Afghanistan. What a mess.

If Maliki cannot withstand Isis it is an indication of the illegitmacy of his regime...just as the South Vietnamese government could not fight back the North after we left.
Artificial governments fall. My premise may be proven wrong if the million Shiites in Baghdad stand up to ISIS. Taking the capital is an entirely different operation.

Any empowerment of Al Qaeda has consequence for us because Al Qaeda
never view itself as just local - but has an ever anti US commitment.

The neocons so obviously failed to think thru real costs, consequences, and responsibilities on the way to securing the oil and a Middle Eastern base of operations for our military without the consent of the present occupants. Replacing a tyrant with anarchy while doing it all on the cheap with very bad advice and here it is.

Well, as usual, they were caught up in the he-man fun of playing Rambo in the desert. Who can be bothered with such fine points when there are mountain goats to be bombed and cities full of people to be attacked in the name of stopping people who attack cities full of people?

You guys do like to engage in revisionist history. Remember that Iraq was going to be on the "great achievements" of Obama's administration. Joe Biden said so, so it must be true.

And then Gibbs doubled - down on it:

You seem to have conveniently forgotten that Obama took the unpopular position of voting against the Iraq War in the face of Dubya's propaganda campaign.

Yeah. He voted against it before he wanted to take credit for it.
