Anybody remember when there was a 91 percent tax bracket? I kid you not. Google it.

Come live with me for a month... you'll have a whole new perspective!

The last time I paid $400 a month rent was over 25 years ago. Three times that amount is more like it.

In the 80's, I was making about the amount you are bantering about, with a wife and kid. We scraped by, barely. Every purchase had to be carefully weighed. And managing to save enough to afford a down for our own house was a bleedin' pipe dream.

$24K? Yeah...break out the 40 year-old single malt and Cuban cigars.

24k a year, hmm, property taxes over $5k, electricity in January was $650, gas is $2.33 but the car mostly stays in the garage. Homeowners insurance, auto insurance, food, etc. guess we could make it to June on $24k or if the kitchen garden comes in fast enough maybe to August if we turn off all the lights.

We have had eight years of government ignoring this country, our roads suck, bridges fall down, private industry ignoring the future out of present greed. Flat tax is about the dumbest idea I have ever heard, and in 78 years I have heard some pretty stupid proposals.

You guys are definitely living in the wrong part of the country! There is a lovely upstairs 2 bedroom apartment down the street from me, and across the street from a park, it goes for the whopping cost of $300 a month plus utilities. I could easily live on 24K a year, and have done so, in little town USA.

Get out of the east coast, west coast, south coast, big city, burbs, etc., and move to a midwestern small town and see how it's done! Sure, you might have to commute a little ways (50 miles would be the furthest) for a job, but there's no traffic on the way there!

And if we all move to where you are then the prices will go up, so it it not worth the trouble.

We have spent 20 or more years planting trees, flowers, cleaning out the woods, simply getting this place looking the way it does, the only way you could get my wife out of here is in an urn.

Now if she goes before me then Nova Scotia here I come.
