Why is the German economy such a success.

Every country in Europe is looking to Germany.

Why is Germany so successful.

As someone who lived there for 11 years and has traveled back often, there are several factors. The Germans are smart, educated, no-nonsense people who believe (for the most part) in the common good. They work hard, play hard and are honest folk. Their management/labor relations are probably the best in the industrialized world, as are their vocational/apprenticeship training programs. All work is accorded a certain level of dignity and is rewarded with full vacation and health benefits. Crime, by our standards of measure, is damned near nonexistent.

On the other side of the ledger, their culture tends to be more rigid than ours with less innovation, risk-taking and openness to new ideas.

All in all, I love the place. It's my second home and I have a lot of dear friends there. We can learn a lot from each other, though both countries are a bit reluctant to admit it.

I hear the rest of the world has everything to learn from us, 'cuz we're the best!

Yeah, I know that's bullshit too. And, it's a shame, because we truly could be if some of us would stop swallowing such lies.

Because their military expenditure isn't more than the top sixteen nations in the world, fifteen of which are our allies.

It's the same reason Japan kicked ass for a long time: where do you invest your resources?

They've chosen internal strength, conservatism and incremental spending.

WINNING.

I thought it was selling to shady countries?

I have great respect for the Germans, they seem like very hard workers.

No, it's the Strudel.

Yes, they are. But, they are bossy as hell and don't ever tell her she's wrong about anything. You will quickly learn how we ended up with two world wars.

Putin is trying hard not to lose her. He wants development, but is very wary
of US domestic interference and regime change mantra.

So he is looking at, and welcoming the German engine.

Having been stationed in East Germany, he probably been impressed by
Germany successful absorption of the East.

I believe Germany was blessed with the early social contracts (sickness,
accident, old age and disability insurances) of the 1880s. The contracts are
embedded in their system.
