"The Church" wasn't behind anything, least of all the American Revolution. Individual clergymen spoke out against slavery and for women's suffrage but a far greater number defended slavery and the subjugation of women as the "Law of God". Most, like the denominations they represented, stayed mute. The only exception would be the Society of Friends.

Didn't they also burn witches?

These bastards at Hobby Lobby and Conestoga are trying to set a precedent to allow their own peculiar brand of theism to dictate what their employees do in their private lives. I don't get why you support them in this.

Giving state power to churchmen is the shortest route to tyranny there is.

Right. Because all too many of them think their word is the word of God. Does that sound like someone given to negotiation and objective thought to you?

Before 1776 the Church of England was 'the' church in VA. On Sunday your sorry arse had better be in church or sick in bed otherwise you would spend time in the stocks. And the stocks are still there in Williamsburg. The king or queen is the head of the CoE.

Well, this is all well and good. However, now I'm just waiting for the first case of a marriage between, say, two males: one a 16 year old and the other 45 year old. That ought to be interesting to see unfold.

Didn't the Duck Dynasty patriarch advocate that sort of imbalanced arrangement?

Shame about those opinionated revelations, they looked like an updated Southern fried Earl Hamner "Waltons family" with a business enterprise until papa Phil outed himself as a cracker ignoramus Fred Phelps. He has a right to state whatever opinions he holds as much as those who disagree have the right to resent and revile him for their advocacy.
