It's scary, but probably won't be the end of the world. But I fear it will be the start of the U.S. not being what we've been used to. When I was in High School there was Russia. Most of my adult life, it's been us. Guess it's just the way things are. Can't stay on top forever. Probably best in the scheme of things, somehow. But it bugs me all the same.

I would imagine that China will overtake us in GNP, they have a huge country and a lot of people. Provided they don't poison themselves due to a lack of environmental controls.

Then again, this current downturn reminds me of the eighties. The mood of the country was grim, and the conventional wisdom was that the Japanese would wind up owning the country.

They did make some headway over here, but a lot of them went home wearing barrels.

When it comes to passing out a good old fashioned screwing, the Yankee businessman is nobody's fool.

We may have a bunch of cheap Chinese junk, but all they got was a bunch of digits on a computer screen. And we're busy inflating the decimal point to the right.

Don't forget the IMF. The American taxpayer has been bailing out deadbeat countries for years. And as long as the central bankers can keep extracting their juice, I don't see things changing much.

The UN is 60 years old and we're still on top. If we're smart about it we can stay on top.

I agree- I don't really think the U.N. has anything to do with it.

Dunno. We'd have to really get our financial act in order. Don't see it happening. Shoot, we keep barrowing *more* from China. Not exactly headed the right direction. Don't see it changing as long as no one hear wants to pay the bills. I guess it could happen, I just don't see how from where I'm sitting. People are getting more and more greedy and less and less tolerant. Formula for disaster.
