My grandma's dream was to visit Israel. I promised her as a little boy we would. Sadly I never got that chance, but got to meet many who had. Taxes, while a problem, seem like nothing after talking to people who had to live on Kibbutz.

Hadn't heard of the Kibbutz before. The first resource I found - clearly not an objective source - had a glowing review of Kibbutz living. Putting aside our historical observation of state run Communism, which included totalitarian political regimes, the Kibbutz is portrayed as a very democratic, but also clearly communist community. I got the impression that membership in a Kibbutz is voluntary, but from your post, Grumpy, it sounds like it is not completely voluntary. Being the lefty I am, I found many of the things described in this article very appealing. Overall, however, most all of us here, including me, would likely find the lifestyle stifling.

Regards,

D-Ray

You got that shite right! Nature abhors a vacuum, my friend.
Can't recall where I read it, but one of my favorite quotes is;
"Every revolution eventually leads to the same place-abuse of power."
Ponder that.

The only places that anyone wants to cut amounts to approximately 20% of the federal budget. The Pentagone seems sacrosanct and cutting SS would be a breach of contract, not that it would bother the righties very much.

Face it my dears, if you would rather not mess your knickers every time you cross over one of our crumbling bridges, or drive through the Holland, or any other tunnel, taxes need to rise. TAANSTAAFL. (BTW amusingly enough TAANSTAAFL is also the name of an electrical supply company)

Its not that Kibbutz living was forced on them, but it was necessary to survive. Course it has change much in even my short life.
