The GOP's big tent

The GOP now wants to exact a loyalty pledge from candidates entering Republican primaries. It's been pointed out that the Republicans are considerably more disciplined than the Democrats. Next convention, they will probably issue nose rings to all candidates.

The Democrats have rolled out a new attack focused on 50 Republican candidates for the House. Michelle Bachman asked for and got a Tea Party caucus in the House. So Democrats are pushing Republicans to answer yes or no, would they join the Tea Party caucus?

It's a good move. There are some pretty out there ideas in the Tea Party camp of late. If Democrats can make this stick they will split the Republican block into two camps- the moderates and the Tea Party folks. There are a lot of Republicans trying to have their cake and eat it too with this "movement". If this initiative works, they may have over-played their hand. If they say they will join the caucus, many moderates may find that unattractive. If they say they won't, they'll loose support of a passionate and mobilized group. Not an easy call for a lot of these guys.

It'll be good sport to watch at least. Not sure it will generate any solutions to the problems facing America, but why should they start worrying about that now?

Take care,

Ed

I suggest all freshmen Republicans go through a rite of passage wherein they are hung by their nipples for at least 2 hours per day for the first ninety days of their first term. After that any who vote to go to war will be required to prove their toughness and patriotism by serving one one year tour of duty on the front line of that war, stripped down to their skivvies and armed with only a slingshot and a mouth full of acorns.

Sista Sarah has now backed some unknown Reepublican for governor of Maryland, hope he wins the primary, O'Malley will wipe the floor with him. I do believe they are counting on Marylanders having short memories and have forgotten the 72% rate hike they gave to Constipation Energy. Funny thing was that all the while Bobby Haircut was governor we did not hear about alternate suppliers, that changed whe we tossed him out. Now I am with a different provider and saving money.

I haven't yet spoken to my mother-in-law about this. Confusion must reign supreme. She's a big fan of both Ehrlich and Palin. One can only hope that Palin helps split the MD Republican vote in the primary.

I hope the ring comes in silver, I think gold is too flashy.
