It'll take some time for this to become less remarkable tho' it'll likely never fly with a percentage of the population's comfort zone.
OTOH, I quit taking local public transport after dark when I lived in Frankfurt A.M. Germany when I was presented with a young-ish straight-looking couple in an otherwise nearly vacant underground station in the throes of an activity bordering on something needing their own room with a closed door, made me intensely uncomfortable. After that I walked or bicycled anywhere I went in the city.
BTW, tho' my partner and I are obviously a couple we have gotten zero flack here in the last ca 25 years, we are discreet about public affection beyond hugs and touching to avoid encroaching outside of the common comfort zone.

I do not like it when I see couples licking and kissing or whatever in public. It makes me jealous. It makes me even jealous when I see a pet - a dog, a cat, a rat, a snake, whatever - is getting a hug.

The only reason this made the headlines, is that it was two guys. If it would have been a guy and a girl no one would have thought twice about it.
While I don't care to see a guy and a girl kiss or two girls kiss, it doesn't bother me. Now if they are choking on each other's tounge, that is a different, and I will tell them to "Go get a damn room."
