I wonder whether the state senate will vote to convict. It'll take a 2/3rds vote to send him packing.

121-23 votes in favor of impeachment is pretty damning and his corrupt and criminal conduct is pretty well known, despite winning the election a third time. The Senate convicting him is a tall order and I don't see it happening, but he also tried to blackmail some house members to vote no to impeachment which will not sit well. Resignation is the only option for him I can see unless he carries out his threats of exposing some members of House and Senate.

I've seen that it only takes a simple majority (51%) to convict. TX elected him twice because the opposing candidate was a Democrat.

Paxton’s permanent removal would require a two-thirds vote by the Senate’s 19 Republicans and dozen Democrats. Paxton’s wife, Angela, is a Republican senator entitled to vote. So is Sen. Bryan Hughes (R), a Patrick lieutenant mentioned in the House articles of impeachment as having aided Paxton. Patrick has not said how he plans to handle those potential conflicts of interest. Both he and Abbott have remained conspicuously silent during Paxton’s impeachment investigation.

Trump and key figures in MAGAWorld have now come out four-square in favor of Paxton. Accordingly, conviction by the Senate is not a foregone conclusion considering that rampant corruption is a desirable attribute for MAGA politicians.

Per CNN: "For Paxton to be removed from office, two-thirds of the Texas Senate's members who are present will have to vote to convict him."

And to be technical, a simple majority is 50%+1.

So the Repubes circle the wagons and Paxton wears impeachment as a badge of honor.

Or they could delay the Senate proceedings effectively keeping him out of office, but avoiding an impeachment vote. The more I read about it, this is not a simple case of corruption and impeachment, there is infighting within the Texas Republicans. My guess is that Paxton was strong arming/blackmailing some of the TX members of congress who were grumbling about his corruption, especially the $3.2M settlement with tax payers money.

Another thing that is bothering me is that in the impeachment session yesterday in the Texas state house, a lot of the Repugnant politicians were referring to the scum Paxton as General Paxton instead of Attorney General (or by the acronym AG), as if to imply that he is somehow more than a crooked politician.

People respect generals. It's a propaganda gimmick. Shit like that makes me sick.

The more better to let the "troops" rally around "The General" instead of around the corrupt snake that he is.
