The President announces new 10 year pact with our friends in the Phillipines.

I'm sure we'll be hearing all about what a terrible idea it is from the usual suspects, who would crow about strength and prowess amid images of attacking eagles clutching arrows and square-jawed Green Berets gritting their teeth, M-16s in hand.......

.....if we had a Republican President.

For my part, I dislike any military expansion. But, with the growth of Chinas defense industry, I reluctantly admit it may be prudent.

This is sure beginning to look like Cold War II, what with our blossoming "containment policy" toward Russia and China and our support for really nasty insurgencies in Libya, Syria and Ukraine.

It seems there is a growing sentiment in Japan that the truth be acknowledged and even taught in schools. That's a plus, in my opinion and a sign that obfuscation and denial may gradually cease.

To your list of under-reported American atrocities, add our conduct in the Philippine–American War. It was at least on a par with the Nanking Massacre. Depending on your sources, we killed up to 5 times as many innocents as the Japanese did in Nanking.

It just seems a shame that we should be in this modern age be given guarantee to Japan versus China. The Japanese seem to be just as
provocative as the Chinese. I observe where the President was telling them to calm it.

I am ambivalent on the A bombs. They were prepared to fight to the last man
for the Emperor.

Even after the first one was dropped they still did not want to give up.

BTW the Japanese rebuffed the President on opening of their markets.
