I have many friends and family in Tenn. Love visiting them but it still gets a bit cold for my health in the winters there. Believe me it was very hard to cross it off the short list..

OK. Winter in the desert, summer in Tenn. Avoid the winter chill, and baking in the summer in the land of no water. Your choice as to which is the main base, and which is the 'cabin.' I'd go for Tenn main base though--you might like the spring and fall there. Family a big plus there too.

Not me!

The desert cabin can be an off-the-grid economy model, since you won't hang around for the unsurvivable-if-not-refrigerated season....

This example is in California, but it captures the concept....

Actually, i wouldn't want to live without any electricity, and making my own might be more fuss and expense than I'd necessarily want....

But off the grid is where the really cheap homesites are, which might make the fuss and expense worth it.

I would love to have a home with enough land to allow a combo of wind and solar power. Maybe sell some back to the lectric company and make a buck

Just a day dream tho..

Methane generator? Might as well get something back from the waste.
