Inherit the Wind

1960 Film.

Just watched this on TCM a few nights ago. Of course, I'd seen it before but that was many years ago. Really enjoyed watching it again.

Great performances by Spencer Tracy and Fredric March. After watching it, I did a little reading about the film and found that the actual story of the Scopes Monkey Trial differs substantially from the film. For example, William Jennings Bryan doesn't die at the end of the trial (he dies 5 days later). Dramatic license, I suppose.

I didn't pay attention to the opening credits and as I was watching the movie, I thought, hey, that's Gene Kelly! Not used to seeing him in a dramatic role.

Anyway, if you haven't seen it, put it on your list.

Sounds good.

Headed to the local video stores looking for "Loose Shoes", myself.
Comedy, 1980, starring Bill Murray.

We have some awesome video stores here. One in downtown Norfolk that has thousands of titles stretching back to the beginning of film cinema.

That's why they didn't use any of the real names for the Dick York character (Scopes), the Frederick March character (Bryan), the Spencer Tracy character (Clarence Darrow) or the Gene Kelly character (H.L. Mencken). In literature stories like that, truth masquerading as fiction, are called Roman a clef.

Is good. Talky but good. If you're doing talky you need good talkers. Tracy, March and Kelly are good talkers. Harry Morgan plays the judge, if I remember correctly. He's a damn good talker too.
