American medical research, a crown jewel of the world scientific community, faces a profound crisis in the age of COVID-19. Without policy changes by the federal government, the academic biomedical research sector could be hobbled for years to come and could lose its competitive edge to other nations.

Over the past six months, medical researchers have been battered by a triple blow. First, most clinical trials in the United States came to a halt to protect participants and staff from COVID-19 infection. Then, academic hospitals and medical centers, financially crippled by the pandemic, dramatically cut back on research funding. Finally, the Trump Administration stopped issuing visas to foreign scientists, cutting off a wellspring of talent on which American research teams depend.

The director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was overheard blasting Scott Atlas, a new member of the White House coronavirus task force who appears to have the ear of President Trump, according to a report by NBC.

"Everything he says is false," CDC Director Robert Redfield over overheard saying during a phone call on a flight that was overheard by a journalist working for NBC News.

After the flight, Redfield was was approached by NBC News and confirmed he was speaking about Atlas.

I think we need a deep dive investigation into this quack Dr. Scott Atlas. He has no background in infectious diseases but that doesn't matter to tRumpy because the good doctor () agrees with him. We've seen fat boy's selection of doctors doesn't have much to do with medicine.

I think people are blaming tRump for his response to the pandemic. He didn't cause it but if he had marshalled up a response starting in Feb. when he knew Covid-19 was dangerous instead of downplaying it's severity. How much death and destruction could have been avoided?

Who is blaming T'Rump for the epidemic? Most people are faulting him for his piss poor response to it. It's bad enough without making up stories, big guy.
