How come this Shearing cd collection is so expensive when the vinyl of these concerts can be found for pennies at the Salvation Army?

case closed.
And, in a couple of years, you'll be able to buy those Shearing CDs for $1.99 at SA or GW.

And what a seller wants isn't necessarily what a seller can get.

So, we'll see. I still think I'm right. CD sales are continuing to drop while vinyl sales are on the rise. The mass market will be Hi-Res downloads, CDs will disappear and "audiophiles" and collectors will play vinyl.

The Mosaic jazz collections are very expensive...that Shearing collection has been getting those prices for a long time now. Even at $100 that is still pretty expensive for some cds.

The quality control on new vinyl is atrocious by the way.

Those Mosaic box sets have yet to make an appearance at any places I go to.

The Mosaic releases are fantastic! The problem with them is that, as you say, they're very expensive and produced in very small quantities so using them as a benchmark for the health of the format is like using Koenigsegg prices to assess the health of the auto market.

For the most part, yes, but a lot of the bad stuff results from taking shitty CDs and transferring them to vinyl. There are some awfully good new LPs out there though. Analog Productions is an example.

No, of course not. I was joking before but, as I said before, they're not a reliable indicator of the overall market. They were collector's items when they were new and they continue to be. When you see a CD boxed set of The "Collected Works of Milly Vanilly" selling for $300.00 on eBay, you might have an argument.
