Thanks y'all but I'm thinking it may be time for another vacation from this place since all I could see upstairs was invective thinly disguised as thought.

Because of how PC appears on my screen 'upstairs' is Politics and Current Events, particularly the latter. Everything is either black or white, no shades of grey anywhere. We have an expression for that in Quebec - Tete de pioche. Meaning that the person has an outlook as wide as the narrow edge of a hoe blade.
