Obama clears up the name game

I finally understand. Obama won't call them "radical Islamists", he says because it's not valid as they don't represent Islam and they just want us to use that terminology to goad us into a war against an entire religion. But then he immediately calls them ISIL, which stands for the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.
So he's calling them Islamic as well. That means it must be the "radical" part that he doesn't like. If he didn't like the "Islam" part, he wouldn't call them ISIL either.

He only brought it up because Republicans and Trump have been ranting and raving as though the use of those magic words was the silver bullet against terrorism. He basically told them to STFU if they have nothing useful to say.

Yes, that can happen. I had a mechanic very upset at me once for calling an adjustable wrench a "crescent". Said I nearly prevented him from fixing the car.

ISIS and ISIL are accepted nouns for the mess we left in the Middle East.

Most people use, are familiar with ISIS. He is invariably with ISIL.

What is his game with this ISIL. Will a communicator tell him to cease
with his ISIL.

I think ISIS or ISIL is the translation of what they call themselves not an invention on our part. They do not call themselves Daesh...that is what other Muslims call ISIS.
