Don't ever confuse them with Gyromitra, this dangerous mushroom appears in Spring...

Indeed...false morels (although the one pictured looks like a good morel...). I had false morels around too. You can tell them apart; the genuine morel is hollow, the false morels are solid inside and tend to be sorta slimy.

My riff about 'poisonous morels' was intended as humor--had not heard of 'false morels.'

We have found the false morel in the past, growing within feet of the real thing.
BTW, we had butter sautéed shrooms with moose steaks last night, and with scrambled cheese eggs this morning.
Delicious!
