I'm trying to figure out whether you're serious or whether you're yanking our chain.
If you're saying that Merle Haggard is the source of your political philosophy, I gotta figure that you aren't serious. He might reflect some of what you believe, but you gotta be kidding to suggest that there is a deficit in our political background if we haven't listened to Merle Haggard.
Does running down your country include running down its duly elected President? Is there any room for criticism about government programs? After all, when we are comparing health care systems of other countries, we are talking about policy choices about how health care is allocated. How about those people protesting the tax system? Are they criticizing policy or criticizing America?
Some philosophical principles upon which our political system is based came from English, Greek, Latin, and other thinkers. Does that make our system un-American?
I mean, it wasn't a bad thing to borrow the idea of democracy from another country is it? If looking at things that have worked in other countries and considering them for our country in unpatriotic, then we should give up on much of the weaponry that is in our defense systems, because it was developed by German Engineers. The Japanese made some pretty good audio equipment, and Americans have shown a lot of favor toward it. Should we not listen to them, because it might suggest that they were doing something better than a lot of American companies?
Somehow, I just can't get my head around the argument that anyone who doesn't agree with everything that is going on here is un-American.
