I think we should have done nothing. Take that back- I think we should have put all our resources into rebuilding that damed building and getting Bin Laden. Then we should have tried, convicted and then executed him from the roof of the newly rebuilt World Trade Center, televised on Al Jazera.
Then we should have gone about our lives as usual, thumbing our noses at the fools who thought they could drain our resources and suck us into a war on their...
Well, it would have been a good plan. Imagine how pissed ol' Osama would have been in his cave when three months later he looked at the TV and saw everything back to normal and a nation unphased by his "master plan". GW out of a golf course somewhere "on vacation" laughing at him.

I guess it took 9/11 for the point to sink in with Bush but that's clearly not the case for the Clinton Administration. They tried to get him repeatedly. That they failed doesn't mean they didn't take the threat he posed seriously.
Don't forget that Richard Clarke, Clinton's and then Bush's Chief Counter-Terrorism Adviser, warned Condoleeza Rice that bin Laden was going to have to be a big priority for the new Administration. He was ignored.

Well, according to George Freedman of Stratfor, OBL's plan was to draw the USA into a protracted war and bankrupt us. And it worked to a certain degree.
But the international banking cartel and our politicians out OBLed him!!!!
Bad thing is, this is going to go on for some time. It's not a fight you can walk away from.
Perhaps the time has come for a change of strategy, but we just can't walk away. Because they won't.
Actually, I read where Al Qaeda was wanting to attack the Chinese. And I hope that they do.
Talk about boots on the ground. The Chicoms won't need guns, they'll just stomp 'em to death!!!!

Bring all our troops home, not just Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Islamic extremists who are hell bent on creating a new Caliphate and destroying us along the way.
Iraq and Afghanistan are simply means to an end.
While a simplistic and uneducated view, I would say either put the additional troops in Afghanistan or get them out. I'm inclined to say get them out...when was the last time anyone ever won in Afghanistan?
But to leave the troops there without the support they need is unconscionable in my opinion.

May not be such a bad idea.
Think anybody will miss us when we're gone?

1-15-09, Obama signed an executive order directing the CIA to shut down this 'horrid stain on American greatness'.
Coming on a year now. Out of Shout?

Check your date, Pete. Cheney was still president on January 15, 2009.
I don't think there has been even a slight wavering in President Obama's determination to close Guantanamo but, as we're learning, that's not easy. We can't just cut them loose to take art lessons in Saudi Arabia as Cheney did. Plus, the Republicans are doing everything they can to block the Administrations efforts to imprison them here and even to try them here (as the Bush Administration did).
Also, am I to believe that you don't think Guantanamo is a 'horrid stain on American greatness'?
