Missed this thread on the first go-around, but that is likely the most accurate bit of insight that I have seen on this forum. (Of course, that's because it is something I have been saying for years.) I have seen it in the sheet metal industry through my work with the union. Too man contractors fail when they are passed on to a generation that did not grow up in the trade, or when they are sold to bean-counters.
