Anyone else see the irony in the name of the carrier going to this mess?

""Pentagon orders U.S. aircraft carrier Bush nearer to Iraq""

Use military force to deal with them only when 1) it is in clear and direct self-defense, 2) there is a reasonable expectation the force will abate the threat, 3) there is no less-destructive way to abate the threat, 4) and the results will not be ridiculously disproportionate to the threat.

Classic ethics of war.

Note that the proposed air strikes, IMHO, violate both points 1 and 2.

Let's not make Iraq even worse

http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/...e-9537603.html

"The best that can be hoped for in the short run is that Mr Maliki realises the mistakes he has made and learns from them, and that he can turn the tide against Isis."

Agreed.

I'm beginning to wonder about this country Barney. With heavily gerrymandered rightwing congressional districts, we have the worst do nothing congress in the history of the country.

I know how you feel! Really man! The divide is getting wide.

But I trust the balance to be restored. It may take some time but sanity will return.

Me too, really. I didn't mean to sound like I'd given up. Just wondering how much misery the country will have to go through before the people wise up and vote the buggers out.

I see this as a big opportunity where the countries in the neighborhood could have a meeting of the minds. The US could lead the way for Turkey Iran Saudi Arabia Israel all the power players to come together and tackle these extremist.

But with the events in Ukraine I doubt Russia will be much interested in deal making right now.

Same with the GOP, they do not want this President to have any successes. Country hell, world be dammed!!
