Not the sequoia's only current problem. Drought conditions and fire damage apparently make them susceptible to bark beetle infestations that can kill them. Not know to have happened before. https://www.theguardian.com/environm...-500-years-aoe

It's been a hot and dry summer. I sure hope the Tahoe Basin doesn't go up in smoke.

What should make the rest of the country wake up and realize. This will be coming soon enough to your local area....

The air was so smoky yesterday I couldn't go outside. Makes my eyes water and I get congested and the car has a layer of ash on it.

Good thing there is no such thing as global warming, eh?

The Caldor fire is slowly creeping towards Tahoe. Here is a website that I have been following to get daily updates.

Still a very good chance that the forward/eastward movement of the fire will be arrested by Monday, there is a huge precipice east of Twin peaks and that is where the spread can be mitigated.

Our insurance company will not renew fire insurance past September, so this new wildfire is going to complicate matters further.

Damned Caldor fire is marching towards South Lake Tahoe.

"Residents and tourists in the Lake Tahoe area were ordered to evacuate the popular summer destination as officials race to contain the massive Caldor Fire that burned five miles from South Lake Tahoe.

On Monday, the entire city of South Lake Tahoe was issued evacuation orders, after the widespread Caldor Fire experienced a 'rapid spread,' according to Cal Fire.

The new evacuation order was issued for Tahoe Keys, Tahoe Island, Al Tahoe, Sierra Tract, Bijou, Tahoma, Fallen Leaf, Pioneer, Gardner Mountain and Trimmer."
