I think the degree to which that theory is valid is very weak.
Other countries with very little gun violence also have violent tv shows, and gaming entertainment.

What other countries with little gun violence don't have are politicians who are beholden to the NRA.

We have two things other countries don't have:

1. Very vast numbers of guns.
2. A gun culture, which conflates gun ownership with masculine power.

I suspect both factors play a part.
