Merry, your comment hit home fir me, in a different sort of way..
Husband recently went through a series of surgery at our local catholic hospital. (not our choice, the choice of our insurance). As a result he got some sort of or infection. During three follow up appts he mentioned to the doc that the would was still weeping. (a sure indication of infection) they all examined him and declared nothing wrong.
I insisted he go again to the doc and, at the very least, see if someone would prescribe an antibiotic.
Flash forward..... Saturday he came home from (the same) hospital having been there for two weeks fighting the infection. He is home on an IV pump that injects constant medication and a nurse comes every day. This could go on indefinitely we have been told.
I know this could have happened regardless if if the hospital was catholic or not.... But right now in my life, catholic hospitals are not very high on the list of things I like.

Point taken, my excuse is arthritis. Prayers on the way for your husband. That sort of thing can happen but pretending it does not exist is inexcuseable. My older sister, well my only sister, picked up a bug in hospital in British Columbia. They immediately jumped on it and the doctor refused to release her until he saw three consecutive negative blood tests for said bug. And of course there was no bill.

Sounds more like incompetant doctors to me.
Most doc's are on the staff of multiple hospitals.
Hope your husband gets well soon.

Painter, you are right... This could have happened at any hospital. Intellectually, I know that, but, I'm still angry.

Barbara, my prayers for your husband.
I'm no Catholic but they operate a giant charity system. Our country and the world would be worse off without them.

I sincerely hope your husband gets well soon. Sadly, a lot of people are unaware of how ubiquitous nosocomial infections are. A hospital provides an ideal selecting environment for antibiotic resistant strains of microbes. The happy days of thinking that man had a secure handle on preventing infections is long gone. Microbes march forward and will ultimately thwart our rather simplistic solutions.

Barbara, there is a reason it is called "Practicing Medicine" after all.
Another who wishes for a speedy full recovery of your husband.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. Husband is feeling better and the levels (of who knows what!) that they check with blood tests are stable.
I am hoping the infection clears up quickly as I have been told by the death panel.... Uh,er.... I mean, the Insurance company, that they will only cover a limited amount of the antibiotic he is receiving.
But, I'm optimistic.. He's an ornery old fart.
