So far this Primary season, Republican turnout is way up, Democratic turnout on the other hand, not so much.
Both Iowa and New Hampshire went for Obama in 2008 and 2012.
And turnout records were set during the recent 2016 primaries.
For the Republicans.

The Republican record was shattered: The final tally for GOP ballots cast was 284,120 votes. That beats out the 2012 Republican primary tally of 248,475.

But not for the Democrats.
Quote:
In Iowa, 172,000 Democrats took part in the party caucuses. The number in 2008 was 240,000.
In the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday, 251,000 Democrats voted. The number in 2008 was 288,000.

In these two states, which Obama won in 2008 and 2012, the Democrats had less turnout than the Republicans in the 2016 Primary. 33,000 less in New Hampshire and 11,000 less in Iowa.
