That deterrent is a big part if why I think not so many will turn out for the next phase of the rebellion. But in the somewhat longer view, I'm not relaxed at all. The country is fractured, without a unifying vision. This will lead to further trouble I fear.

Of course we know that he is not representative. But by far most of us do not understand why this perverted person got, all in all (2016/2020) - around 150000000 votes. Maybe I have some idea about this phenomenon. It has much to do with the history of the United States, with the two party system, with the existence of the so called "Bible Belt" and the so called "Rust Belt" and so on and on. Many things together, including the Social Media, made this mad monster possible.

This person got that many votes because a significant section of the population's concerns re globalization and immigration were dismissed/ignored by important Elders of both parties.

Of course, a subset of such a section is racist.
