It's just a joke guys. I am such a cheapskate, however, that I am still solid state.

So, then we get some fool on the Hill to try to outlaw anything built by Pass Labs...

Ideally, you'd still have 120VAC service for the big stuff that uses motors and heating coils. But we also need to think about running a DC bus (probably in the range of 24VDC from a centralized conditioner at the home. That way all those wall warts go bye-bye and your lighting/electronics becomes simpler and more innovative.

Some of my most treasured electronics are around thirty years old.

Lighting, yes. Electric heat, no.
Used to own a set of Rogue M120 Monoblocks. In the dead of winter, those eight EH6550s would have us sweating in the living room.

BTW, this 2600 sq ft two story all electric home runs us on average $250 per month even give the inefficient over-priced electric system here in the US.

In that case, market efficiency will take over

It needs to be attacked on all fronts. Gas mileage needs to be improved; electricity usage needs to be decreased; habits have to be changed.
If this move toward more energy efficient lighting is not important, do you think the government could have withstood the pressure from lobbyists? Advertising has encouraged excessive usage of energy for years. Advertising is just a more subtle means of directing people's behavior. It requires stronger measures to respond.
|
Quite simply, our nation will never again be properous and competitive if we bow to the demands of the eco-left to make energy rare and expensive. It needs to be cheap and plentiful. At the same time, we should work to cut emissions of REAL pollution (not CO2)even further.
And there currently is not a great similiarity between transportation energy and the power grid. The only nexus there is perhaps nat gas which serves both sectors. Making the transistion to electric vehicles or even hydrogen vehicles (which require electricity to create the fuel stock), will require that electricity be plentiful and cheap. Much more capacity and different means of distribution.
Not gonna get there by replacing light bulbs and living like moles..
And what "advertising" was used to brainwash me into being a profulgate energy waster? Who paid for the "please let your children leave the lights on" campaign? I totally missed that...

A good friend of mine has a rustic cabin on a few hundred acres of family
land. It's deer camp in the fall and beer camp the rest of the year.
Anyway we power it with an inverter and a 12 volt marine battery.
We have an 86 model 55wpc realistic receiver and two lamps. That's
about all we really need out there. With both lamps on, 13 watt cfl curly
bulbs, the cooling fan runs on the inverter and that is with the stereo off.
With the receiver on at ear splitting levels pushing some old ratty JBL
speakers with the lamps off the cooling fan never comes on???????
So two energy efficient? bulbs use more power than a 300 some odd watt
receiver?
