Flat Earth Society

“President Obama and I both believe we don’t have time for a meeting anywhere of the Flat Earth Society.” John Kerry, U.S. Secretary of State in reference to climate change deniers.

I still wonder when global warming evolved into climate change. There must be a conspiracy there somewhere.

The climate always changes. I'd argue that believing we can willfully change it is close to flat earthers.

That sounds about right Pete.

The only reason man has been able to survive a flourish is global warming. We are living in one speck of earth time that is warm and ice has receded.

We can't eat if the earth is covered in a mile deep of ice.

Horse feathers the title was changed in the interest of accuracy. If any of you believe that the recent massive storms are normal then you have your heads up your arse.

Just because it changes on it's own doesn't mean we aren't accelerating it greatly just as we are doing now.

We may be, but if so we're doing it with the entire accidental striving of mankind. We *might* be able to slow the growth of output of greenhouse gases (Kyoto was an abject failure) but in order to stop the changes we'd need a massive and immediate reversal, good luck, and there's no guarantees with that either. If the doomsayers are correct it's already past the point of no return.

People don't understand how big the atmosphere is, or how powerful the many forces of nature are. We get weird weather (or what seems weird in our short lives and records) and think somebody should do something. People wanting power are more than happy to oblige.

I think the real issue is how much money we're willing to spend to make no measurable difference in world climate, particularly with China and India not playing along. Hell, Europe recently bailed on its own targets due to cost (and lack of results).

Bottom line - If we want to "save the world," there are a lot cheaper and more effective ways of doing so (vaccinations and AIDS treatment in the third world, potable water ...)
