This is a common belief in some sects but has nowt to do with reality.

If I remember my indoctrination into American culture the general trend is to lump the Calvinist predestination belief onto the separation of church and state as one of the reasons why we became an economic powerhouse AS well as a "free" nation (unless you were a slave of course).
