3) your weapon is under your bed or in your closet

I believe I would hear someone breaking into my house long before they got close to me.

No, I'm alert.

See above.

See above, again.

No, it's not.

Not necessarily. Some peole are very good at it. How many times do family members come and go from your home while you're sleeping and you never notice?

You are the one scared shitless because:

Congratulations. Most people aren't very alert when they are sleeping. Just ask the Marine that busted me sleeping on watch off the coast of Spain in 1983.

See above.
2) and he has already got his weapon trained on you. And he is not scared like you.
If you're asleep and he is already in the house, weapon drawn and he suprises you...........He has the advantage.

See above, again.

No, it's not."

Good Lord, are you sleeping with your gun? Do you have it on you when you're taking a shower?

Regards,
Dave

So the guy in the hood is aiming a gun at you, and you're going to say "time out, I need to get my gun out of the safe."

Or you are going to leave a loaded weapon where it is readily available to you, or to a toddler.

And while you reach for the weapon instead of the sky, the guy who has the gun trained on you is going to fire before you even get close to the weapon.

Or you're going to be sitting there ready to deal with any intruders, and you get him before he pulls his gun.

Which of those scenarios is more realistic?

D-Ray

Indeed...maybe they have old soup cans with pebbles in them, strung on fishing line throughout their castles? and AK47's under their pillows.

For me, the scenario is that I have a loaded weapon where it is available to me, but not to a toddler. My weapon is hidden, where a toddler (or most anyone, for that matter) would never know there's even a storage compartment, much less a gun. Furthermore, if a toddler were to somehow get a hold of my gun, they do not have the physical strength to operate the action.

Further, your scenario starts with the threat standing in front of me pointing a gun. How did he get in my house without me knowing it? I've got an alarm system with intrusion and motion sensors. I've also got a dog that will alert on any unusual noises.

How about this scenario- Bad guy breaks the glass on the front door. You wake up and call 911. Cops get on their horse. You retreat to a closet while talking to the dispatcher. Bad guy finds you and puts a bullet through your head as you cower in a fetal position begging for your life.

I'd rather go down reaching for a gun.
