I'm iz out my dam mind........

A couple years back, I bought a quad of GE 6BQ5s and 6EU7s from an AK'er Gary Kaufmann. As a bonus, he threw in an Amperex 6085 "PQ" (European 12BH7 variant) that "...still has some life in it.", for me to check out on my Bottlehead can amp.

WOW! Super clean, quiet and sweet sounding tube.

Problem was, it only lasted a few months then went claws up on me. When he said "...a little life left..." he wasn't joking. But, who am I to complain when it was free?

Anyhow, I was browsing Ebay earlier, when guess what popped up in "Recommendations for You.". That's right. At first glance I was thinking, "No way, too much at $78.". But, curiosity overcame me and I just had to look.

NOS/NIB, "Good" is 2380, this one tests 2800/3200. A slight channel imbalance, maybe. What's worse is after browsing the rest of these and seeing that they typically run over $100 for a strong, USED tube...........

Well, it's on its way from Reading, Pennsylvania.

$78 for a single tube? I must be out my dam mind.

Dave

Must have solid gold pins and a platinum getter.

About $30 to someone other than me......maybe......if it's strong, clean and has good lettering with the Blackburn code.

I cannot really tell the difference between tubes

they all sound the same to me that is why I do not spend tons of money on them

I can tell though different circuits...a 6v6 pp amp sounds different from 6BQ5 single ended....

the 7868 Fisher now those tubes sound sweet

Gold pins, yes. Solid? I doubt it. No platinum getter. They're just highly sought after and not cheap anywhere, especially anywhere outside of Europe.

Look. It's just like cars or anything else. Yes, a beat-up S-10 will get you to the grocery store and back, might even haul some trash to the dump while you're at it.

But if by some miracle, say you hit the lottery, you came across a Ferrari you could afford.......

That's how I am with skivvies. They all feel the same. In fact, I usually go commando. The most comfortable skivvy is none at all.

If you had to go to a desert island would you take the maggot box or a Mcintosh amp?

Neither. If it's a "desert" island, it most likely has no electricity.

I have both, BTW.
