believe it or not there was sex in the 1920s

the conventional wisdom is that the real sexual revolution in America occurred in the roaring 20s....it was just not talked about.

Of course in Victorian England the aristorcracy did not apply the strict mores of the Queen to themselves when it came to sexual freedom. They did weld that as a club to the lower classes however.

From what I can see things were actually MUCH rougher not too long ago, but there was a sharply defined line between public and private, children and adult.

Watched Catch-22 yesterday. Fantastic movie.

"The Roman Empire came and went. Italy is till here. Mussolini came and went. Italy is still here. The Nazi Occupiers came and went. Italy is still here. Now you Americans are here and soon you will go, but Italy will STILL be here. Empires come and go..............all of the time. But the people remain. The nation remains. One day your American empire will fall and you will learn that it does not matter.........."

Finally saw 'Lincoln'. Good movie. Even though I've read many biographies of him I didn't know he practically singlehandedly passed the 13th.

It seemed to do a good job of capturing his personality but the actor wasn't ugly enough

My Wife and I got hooked. We watched the first season as a RedBox rental, and I bought Seasons 2 and 3. We have been trying to ration our viewings out, but I think we only have three episodes left in Season 3.

My wife asked an interesting question. Even though the series generally follows a soap opera format, and there are plenty of soap opera themes, many men enjoy it, including yours truly and my father-in-law. I posited that the fact that the men in the series are in positions of authority and domination might have some attraction. Truthfully, however, Maggie Smith plays the most forceful character in the entire production. Hmmmmm.

Regards,

D-Ray

Anyone seen the very highbrow Duck Dynasty yet?

I think men like them because they portray the aristocrats usually in a positive light.....and I think that most of us secretly want to be called m'lord, live in a castle, not have to work (having a job is beneath them) but at the same time have an enlightened soul like the Lord Grantham. Plus if you are interested in early 20th century the British tend to tie historical events in with the shows.

If you like Downton Abbey you really need to see Upstairs Downstairs from the 1970s...that is the template and is just as good if not better than Downton Abbey.
