I love how employers so easily get away with blaming someone else, usually the government, when they shave hours, pay and/or benefits from people these days.

You're mad because I cut your hours? It's the governments fault!
Upset because I laid you off then hired you back at a 30% pay cut? It's that damned Obama, he fucked you out of that money!

Am I the only one who sees this bullshit for what it really is?

Yes, and your post above is a perfect example of the point.

Didn't say it was or wasn't the gov't's fault. I did say that the DOL's own numbers don't agree with the White House's numbers. And if you're suggesting that the White House's numbers are the bullshit, I would agree with you.

I think Americas business and governmental hacks are all full of shit and have ulterior motives that have absolutely nothing to do with what's good for the rest of us.

The problem is too many people----like you, for instance----see good guys and bad guys. I see nothing but bastards. And, until the sheep stop trying to choose which butcher they can trust and start standing up for their own interests, we are all going to continue to get screwed.

No, I think that's the problem.

Sorry, you didn't get it.

Just slapping an 'idiocy' label on the 'white house' is a way to reject what they say, while telling us nothinig other than that you want to. "Idiot' is in fact a nonsense label; whatever one may think of them, they are not idiots. So, idiocy is a meaningless noise in this context, like parciposity.

People act like they are going to act, in the conditions in which they find themselves. Examples are endless. Put a good man in a prison, and he'll act like a prisoner. Make him a guard, and he'll act like a guard. Put him in a nursing home, and he'll act like an invalid. Put him in a asylum, and he'll go crazy.

Put delinquents into a kind, loving, gentle-but-tough-when-it-needs-to-be, supportive environment, and they'll become sober, happy, good kids. Then put them back in the old neighborhood, in the old family situation, and they'll revert.

Within limits, and of course with plenty of individual variation, people are what the 'system' makes them. We indeed have good guys and bad guys; except for some serious psychopaths, everyone has potential for both. We do not, thankfully, have nothing but bastards, but the capitalist system encourages the management of firms to care about one thing only, and it isn't 'the public good.'

For the most part, if you want more good guys and fewer bastards, you need to change the system.

I agree, but there's an absolute limit to what you can spend, my take.

My experience was many, many of the employees in the juvenile system were dedicated individuals making far less than they could have elsewhere, however, in the JDs for hardened minor criminals (they exist and they're as bad as any hardened adult) there is little room for that kind of rehabilitation, the cost of simply housing them becomes prohibitive and most degreed individuals would of course prefer to work with kids more likely to change, you end up with prison guards.

ANY guard that allows or encourages bad behavior should be punished in any system. Hopefully Chas will chime in.

Btw, the Cleveland DH (serving the whole county) was one of the worst in the country for a long time. Building the new one was a patronage boon, think of the cash that could've gone to rehab.
