Democrats can nationalize the Senate races

Incumbent senators are especially vulnerable because they have so assiduously tied themselves to Trump, acquitting him in the impeachment trial, defending his outrageous attacks on democratic institutions, ignoring his blatant racism and enabling his unconstitutional power grabs (e.g., taking money for the wall without consent of Congress). Sens. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) should have thought twice before running from reporters asking whether it is acceptable to extort a foreign power to provide information to smear a political opponent. Maybe Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), who advertised herself as pro-choice for years, should not have confirmed two Trump-appointed Supreme Court justices, both of whom weighed in against abortion rights in this term...

In this political environment, do not be surprised if voters definitely kick out both Trump and his enablers.

California governor signs bill giving prisoners battling wildfires a shot at becoming pro firefighters

Under California bill AB2147, Gov. Gavin Newsom is allowing certain prisoners who are on the front lines of wildfire containment to have their records expunged after serving their sentences. The goal is to make it easier for them to have a firefighting career after release.

Criminal records are often a bar to employment. Newsom said he wants to give the prisoners a shot at becoming firefighters and that removing their criminal history will make that more possible.

"California inmate firefighter program is decades-old and has long needed reform," Newsom said on Twitter Friday. "Inmates who have stood on the front lines, battling historic fires should not be denied the right to later become a professional firefighter."

Meanwhile, many Repube-run states are doing everything possible to ensure inmates are never rehabilitated, are kept in for-profit hellholes owned by billionaire Repube contributors, are never allowed to vote...
