I didn't know that.

Of course, I haven't set foot on a car lot for almost 8 years.

The low octane sippers are coming. Almost every brand has a few they want to bring to the US. Saw a jeep liberty the other day with its diesel badge on the back. Hello 60-80mpg.

Yep, a diesel developed in Kaiserslautern, Germany, and first used in the Opel Astra.

I think the reason the car shows from Europe tend to be better is, they are far, far more car crazy over there. I saw weekly car newspapers in England!

It's live axle syndrome I've still got it.

I think if we doubled the price of gas and added a heap more taxes on new, heaps? we'd see different cars.

I was comparing us to the EU

http://goeurope.about.com/gi/o.htm?z...inewithtax.cfm

I did a little looking and the base price of a 2012 Focus wagon in the UK was 17,095 Pounds, while the 2012 wagon here was $17,400. At the rough average exchange rate on 2012, about $1.57, that would put the UK base at $26,800+. Even the base model could be equipped differently, but that's a lotta cash for a Focus.

If you want people to conserve fuel, (or anything else, for that matter), the only way to get them to take it seriously is to make it prohibitively expensive. You can talk all day long and no one will listen. (I'm the prime example of that.)

Hit them in the wallet and you have everyones attention.
