Hell, the people you listen to have even demonized the sense of social cohesiveness, shared goals and common good that's essential for us to survive as a nation. Once again.... we are not even communicating on the same level. "Ideology"may be getting in the way, but it is not all on my side.

The comment about Jack-booted thugs was a joke, and it was not directed at you, but at one of the ideas that is often advanced in gun control debates, that the aim of government is confiscate guns. A corollary of that argument is that guns are necessary to protect democracy from a totalitarian government. My point is that guns are not a guarantee of household security from crooks or from a totalitarian regime.

That being said, I am very sorry to hear about your brother in law. Be there for your wife and don't fret about us jokers.
